Squadron Presentation Evening 

Wing Commander Paul Mimpress, Officer Commanding Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire Wing recently visited 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron Air Cadets to make a number of presentations to cadets of the Squadron.

The evening started with a formal parade, with all the cadets being inspected by Wing Commander Mimpress and Squadron Leader Andy Baker, the Squadron's Wing Staff Officer.

After the parade, Wing Commander Mimpress presented a number of First Class Cadet certificates to a number of cadets in recognition of them having completed their recruit training which covered a number of areas, including:

  • The Air Training Corps
  • The Royal Air Force
  • Dress Regulations & Uniform
  •  History of Flight
  • Basic Principles of Airmanship
  • Map Reading
  • Initial Expedition Training
  • Basic Radio Communications

Cadet Ben Sugarman is presented with his First Class Cadet certificate by Wg Cdr Paul Mimpress.

These were followed by the presentation of Leading Cadet certificates to cadets who had recently passed a number of examinations in aviation and navigation related subjects.

Further certificates were presented, including those awarded to Cadet Flight Sergeant Katie Vickers who was presented with her certificate of appointment as a Staff Cadet and a nationally recognised BTEC Award in Aviation Studies.

Sergeant Sheldon Gray was also awarded a nationally recognised award, the Institute of Leadership & Management's Level 2 Award in Team Leading which was achieved through successfully completing the Air Cadet Leadership Course at RAF College Cranwell, followed by the completion of a reflective review and workbook which were assessed by the Institute of Leadership & Management.

As part of the final part of the presentations, Wing Commander Mimpress was invited to make two promotions and Cadets Alexander Francis and Connor McLean were both promoted to the rank of Cadet Corporal.

After the promotions, Wing Commander Mimpress addressed the Squadron and parents who were in attendance and the parade was formally dismissed, followed by light refreshments at the Squadron Headquarters where parents and cadets had an opportunity to talk to the Wing Commander and Squadron Staff.

At the end of the evening, Flight Lieutenant Mark Richards, Officer Commanding 1239 Squadron commented "tonight was a great occasion for us to formally recognise the cadet's achievements in front of their peers, families' and friends. The evening went very well and I am proud of the recipients of the awards and indeed very proud of the whole Squadron who turned out in force - they looked extremely smart and were a real credit to themselves and to 1239 Squadron".
