Radio Course Success for 1239 Squadron Trio

Three Cadets from 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron are coming through loud and clear having qualified as full Air Cadet UHF / VHF radio operators.

The course which was held at RAF High Wycombe over a two-day weekend consisted of an intense mix of theory training and practical elements with the cadets being continually assessed on areas such as authentication, phonetics, radio discipline and correct usage of radio prowords such as 'TIME', 'GRID' and 'RELAY'. The cadets were also tested on their theoretical knowledge with multiple-choice exams at the end of both days. Course Director Sergeant (ATC) Ben Button commented "the Cadets' radio procedure improved dramatically over the weekend. It was excellent to see everyone do so well".

Now combined with the completion of the pre-cursory Provisional VHF / UHF course, Corporal Connor Mclean, Cadet James Pickering and Cadet Shannon Metin are now well on their way to earning the coveted Communicator's Badge once they have completed four more areas of study, two of which are due to be covered in their Senior Cadet classification training this Autumn.

Corporal Connor Mclean commented "I found the course quite intensive but it was also very challenging and a lot of fun. I look forward to going back to my squadron and being able to practice my newly acquired skills with my cadet colleagues in preparation for the upcoming competition at Wing Field Day".
