Super Six Secure Silver for 1239 Squadron

Cadets of 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron were runners up at the 2013 Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire Wing Swimming Competition held at the Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, St Albans on 7th September 2013.
1239 Squadron was one of 26 Squadrons that competed for the medals and silverware, and finished overall second to 2409 (Halton) Squadron, who were again crowned the Wing Swimming Champions for 2013 - a replication of last years' result when 1239 Squadron were also runners up.

The Squadron team consisted of six cadets who put in some strong performances and won nine medals as follows:
Sergeant Zoe Pickering (Senior Girls):
Gold - Freestyle
Gold - Breaststroke
Gold - Individual Medley

Corporal James Pickering (Senior Boys):
Bronze - Breaststroke
Bronze - Freestyle
Cadet Shannon Metin (Junior Girls):
Gold - Breaststroke
Silver - Butterfly
Silver - Individual Medley
Cadet Josh Brand (Junior Boys):
Gold - Backstroke
In addition, Corporal Alex Francis and Corporal Connor McLean earned vital points for competing that went towards the total Squadron scores and helping to secure overall place as runners-up.
Segeant Pickering, Cadet Metin and Cadet Brand will now go onto represent Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire Wing at the Central & East Region competition at RAF College Cranwell on the 13th October 2013.
Flight Lieutenant Mark Richards, Officer Commanding 1239 Squadron, said "I am delighted with the team's performance, they did an excellent job, winning nine medals, six of which were gold. These sterling performances, along with the others in the team helped the Squadron finish as overall runners up for this years' competition. We're proud of each and every one of them, a great team effort and we wish the team the very best at the Region competition next month".
