1239 Squadron Support Mayor’s Civic Service

Cadets of 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron recently supported the Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne, Councillor Bren Perryman, by providing a Guard of Honour for the Mayor's Civic Service held at St Cuthbert's Church, Rye Park, Hoddesdon.

The cadets formed a Guard of Honour at the entrance to St Cuthbert's Church and greeted the guests on their arrival, which included the Deputy Lieutenant and other Borough Mayors from across Hertfordshire amongst the 150 plus guests that were in attendance.

Some of the cadets and staff of 1239 Squadron with Cllr Bren Perryman, her Consort, Mr. Freddie Pearce and Mr Roy Howe of the Nazeing Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.

The Service was conducted by Reverend Jonathan Evans who is both the Vicar of St Cuthbert's and also the Mayor's Chaplain. During the Service, a number of readings took place, and the Squadron's Banner was presented along with those of the Royal Naval Association and Royal Air Forces Association. In addition, the Service also featured an excellent solo performance of "Light of a Million Mornings" by Ms Irene Alano-Rhodes, who has performed in 'Miss Saigon'.

After the Civic Service, refreshments were served in St Cuthbert's Church Hall, where the cadets spoke to the various guests and dignitaries present. The Mayor congratulated the cadets on their smartness and turnout and thanked them for performing their duties in a professional and courteous manner.
