1239 Remembrance Weekend

On the weekend of the 9thand 10thof November 2013, cadets and staff of 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) came out in force to support the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Hoddesdon town centre on the Saturday and proudly marched through Hoddesdon town as part of the annual Remembrance Parade on the Sunday.

On the Saturday, cadets and staff were stationed throughout Hoddesdon town centre supporting the Royal British Legions' Poppy Appeal with members of the public being very generous in their support and hundreds of poppies being purchased.

The following day, led byFlight Lieutenant Mark Richards, Officer Commanding 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron, the staff and cadets of 1239 Squadron proudly assembled and formed up at the Hoddesdon Civic Hall for the Remembrance Parade. The Squadron werejoined by members of the armed forces, veterans, the Army Cadet Force and other youth organisations to remember those fallen in conflicts past and present.

As the parade passed through Hoddesdon to the Cenotaph, hundreds of people lined the streets and vicinity of the Cenotaph. After the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying, the Squadron reformed and marched to St Catherine and St Paul Church for the Remembrance Service.

Squadron Boss, Flight Lieutenant Mark Richards, said "again, itwas great to see the cadets turn out this weekend to support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and the Remembrance Day Parade through Hoddesdon and Church Service. The cadets received many complimentary comments about their smartness, bearing and conduct over the weekend. I am very proud of the cadets who gave up their weekend to recognise the sacrifices made by others and support the Royal British Legion".
